Each week Katie and Mel are going to tell you all about the brands they love, for their marketing, for the message they portray or simply because they have a shopping addiction.
This week, Mel kicks it off by talking about a long love for her, Sportsgirl.
1. LOGO:
The bold blue, green, yellow, white and red colour branding is an immediate recognition of the brand. This branding hasn’t changed since it’s arrival and resonates with their shoppers old and young- each year when Sportsgirl brings out their REWIND range, customers go crazy for the stuff that looked like what they might have worn in the 70’s or 80’s.
2. HOW WE MET
I’ve worked for Sportsgirl. But before working for them, it was a brand I loved and dreamt of working for at a young age. When working for them I felt proud to represent them and loved all their products, and now I don’t work for them as much as I did before, I still want to see the new products that float in and can now respect the company on a higher level by looking at them through marketing eyes. Why we are still together
3. WHY WE ARE STILL TOGETHER.
When you go to Sportsgirl you know a few things: the staff will have knowledge of fashion, the clothing is fashion forward and the quality should generally give you something that lasts, physically but also through the fashions! I have things from Sportsgirl that I bought years ago and still love (and that’s good for a girl who don’t like to wear things more than once!).
4. FAVOURITE MEMORY
The brand has expanded and kept up with the times, their website is easy to navigate, has lots of places for questions, interaction and styling, and recently they had an innovative campaign with their lookbook being moving imagery. My favourite campaign was with all of the models wearing the Sportsgirl rewind coloured bikinis and clothing, and it featured lots of their past models, including Samantha Harris before she was really famous!
5. WHY DO YOU LOVE THEM OVERALL?
I will always be a Sportsgirl at heart, like the customers in their 40’s who tell me they used to manage Sportsgirl back in the day and still have a dress, or a regular customer who has been shopping at the Lismore store since 1980 and has kept a scarf that long (true story!). I also have pretty much every Sportsgirl catalogue since 2007.
