Each week Katie and Mel are going to tell you all about the brands they love, for their marketing, for the message they portray or simply because they have a shopping addiction. This week, Mel talks about her un-dying love for Frankie Magazine.

LOGO:

The logo has changed a little through the years, and currently there is two, the header of the magazine and a beautiful script font. Both are just the name, and usually in white. Both suit the magazine, and what style of magazine they are.

HOW WE MET:

Through my friends Sarah and Victoria not long after Frankie’s own inception. They knew the editor at the time. For me, it was love at first sight.

The latest issue of Frankie

WHY WE ARE STILL TOGETHER:

I’ve been getting gift subscriptions and now they have stopped I still gasp and run to buy it whenever I see it. They stock it at Woolworths now which I was upset about at first, because when I first knew Frankie no one knew about it, and now they do, but I need to not be selfish and allow others to enjoy it too. When I buy it at Woolworths I self serve, I won’t put it in the bag with my food items. I instead swipe it, hold it, grab my other things and clutch the mag to my chest as I carry it to the car. I then, usually because I am working, run past it longingly every day in my magazine pile as I walk out the door until the weekend when I sit with it and read it from cover to cover, eagerly awaiting the regular articles and especially any articles by Benjamin Law whom I have a deep infatuation for (just in case you were wondering how one devours Frankie).

FAVOURITE MEMORY

When I got a letter published! This was my first ever print publishing.. and I intend that not to be the last time I have words in that magazine (it might just be an article by Benjamin about how he hates his stalkers but I will be satisfied with that)!

The latest issue of The Smith Journal

WHY DO I LOVE THEM OVERALL?

I am a fashion person. Love Vogue, love Harper’s Bazaar, Oyster and heaps of other mags, a bit of an addict actually. Frankie holds a different and more strong love than the rest though.Frankie is bi-monthly. I used to read it in a day if I had the time (see how one devours Frankie above), but I don’t have the time as much anymore, so usually the articles last me almost the two months. They make me laugh, cry, smile and inspired every month and the difference between it and the other magazines is that I actually want to read the stories, not drool over the fashion spreads ( which are great too!). The brand has expanded to two coffee table books, cook books and now, the owner of the magazine, Morrison Media have released a “boy version”, The Smith Journal.I now buy The Smith Journal (a quarterly Benjamin Law hit) and will keep leaving it on my boyfriend’s desk until he reads it, but for the mean time I am happy to do that for him.
